Weather conditions permitting, Tom will take a break from the day-job as Stickyeyes Chief Financial Officer and head out from Buncrana into the Swilly Estuary and the North Atlantic, circumnavigate the uninhabited island of Glashedy, before heading back to the Irish mainland.

The journey will be an epic two-hour, 25 mile sail, where waves are anticipated to reach up to 10 feet in height.

Tom, who is a regular kite surfer on the Donegal coast, is taking on the challenge to raise money for the RNLI of both Ireland and the United Kingdom, the lifeboat rescue service that is entirely funded by public donation.

Tom said: “When I tell people I work in finance, one of the last things people may imagine is me kitesurfing but, I’ve been surfing off the coast of Donegal for 15 years and have always wanted to kite around Glashedy – a beautiful uninhabited island a couple of miles off the coast from our local spot.

“This summer I have resolved to finally give it a go and at the same time raise some money for the very worthy cause of the Irish and UK RNLI. The RNLI is funded 100% by donations and its crews do an amazing job saving lives at sea in some of the wildest conditions - including off the coast of Donegal.”
