Apple Watch to get native apps – what it means for you

Apple has recently confirmed that all new apps submitted for the Apple Watch need to be ‘native’ as of June 1st . We take a look at what this means for you.

Apple has recently confirmed that all new apps submitted for the Apple Watch need to be ‘native’ as of June 1st .

In other words, an Apple Watch wearer wouldn’t need to have their iPhone with them to access an application, and they would be able to browse the web or use apps independently.

But it now means that brands may need to develop applications specifically for the Apple Watch, in addition to other iOS platforms.

Hello and welcome to Digital Minute. This week we’re taking a closer look at the news surrounding the eagerly anticipated Apple Watch 2.

Apple has recently confirmed that all new apps submitted for the Apple Watch need to be ‘native’ as of June 1st .
The announcement comes amid strong rumours suggesting that the new Apple Watch may support cellular network connectivity, meaning that the watch could connect to the internet independently of any mobile device.

In other words, an Apple Watch wearer wouldn’t need to have their iPhone with them to access an application, and they would be able to browse the web or use apps independently.
Apple claims that the move to native apps is designed to provide a faster and more responsive user experience.

But it now means that brands may need to develop applications specifically for the Apple Watch, in addition to other iOS platforms. It could also mean that your websites need to be responsive and optimised for wearable devices if you want to reach these audiences.
