Google launches ‘In Apps’

Hello and welcome to Digital Minute. This week we’re taking a look at another attempt from Google to speed up the mobile experience.

Google announced that a new feature – ‘In Apps’ – will allow users to search for content contained within the applications on their Android phone.

It means that users wouldn’t have to load a browser, wait for a page to load and then search – the search will simply open up content from the apps that they have installed.

This feature will only work if your app is properly indexed, referred to by Google as ‘Firebase’.

Now, we’ve talked about in-app indexing in the past, the difference is, this development means that a search result will actually open an installed app and not a mobile web page.

At the moment, ‘In Apps’ only works with Gmail, YouTube and Spotify, but support is likely to widen so make sure that your application is compliant when this development picks up speed.
