Hello and welcome to Digital Minute. This week we’ll be talking about some big commercial features coming to Instagram.

Instagram has announced a host of new features in the last few days, but the one that has caught our eye is the introduction of ‘Shoppable Phototags’.

That feature, currently being tested by a small number of brands, has the potential to really drive revenue traffic from visual content.

Shoppable tags will see the introduction of a ‘tap to view’ button which, once selected, will highlight extended product specifics such as, price, description and additional imagery.

There will also be a ‘shop now’ button taking the user directly to the appropriate web page – eradicating the need for brands to insert the hypothetical purchase hurdle ‘check link in bio’.

Instagram will also add a ‘save’ feature, allowing users to collate product pages by bookmarking individual posts.

This is not only useful for the user, but it will also allow brands to access valuable preference behaviours about their followers, ideal for brands wanting to deliver extremely targeted sponsored posts.
